My TA said of my paper at harvard "a laudable effort". Jeez, talk about damning with faith praise!

Uggg one of my gigs gave me a nifty 30 minute video to watch online about workplace harassment. I find it so patronizing to assume we need to be trained to be decent human beings. I mean call me crazy but maybe they should just hire people who are decent rather than slobbering assholes who need a 3o minute video to tell them how to not be assholes.

Is this a threat? It sounds like a threat.

Dear Colleagues:

I am taking some of the Criminal Justice students on a field trip to the Norfolk County House of Corrections on Wednesday morning. If any one is interested in joining us, please let me know. We have a few seats left on the bus.

All the morning glories have decided to reseed themselves... seems ill advised at this time of year but my mom always used to say "they know what they're doing" (plants)
This is a quote from my dad's blog (dont' sue me Daddy):

"One day many years ago, some colleague or student or someone dumped a pile of Tootsie Pops on my desk. I swept them into my top drawer and have been sucking on them ever since...Except I rarely suck. I actually crunch. And when I'm done crunching, because I miss smoking so darned much (last cigarette 12/14/67) I leave the stick in my mouth and roll it around until it's pulped and disgusting."

My response=

Once when I was in HS Tarik (high school bad boy) was eating candy in this manner (crunching, not sucking) and a girl said "you eat those too quickly". He said "I'm the same way with women", which I thought was pretty funny at the time. Funny because it was worldly in a way I wasn't. But I still think it's a great line because it's not exactly a come on to the ladies (why would they want him to be quick), but yet I'm sure a girl would react much as I did to this... thinking it was worldly and prickish. Which is exactly what the ladies like.

Funny how it's not the money that makes one like a job.

My WORST paying gig (by a lot) might be my fav. Why? Because they let me make my own decisions %100. Actually I guess that's true of all three. Doing your own thing is a big thing in academia.

I guess it's more that they respect my abilities and reward them... not with money but just with acknowledgment. Like they'll sometimes ask my opinion about something pedagogical, ask me for help with a tech problem, that kind of stuff. Also there is like zero red tape at that job. And there is a kind of "familiy" atmosphere at that shcool that I really really like. It's hard to explain. Just a nice repoire between students and faculty and the very limited team of admins.

Or maybe it's the limited number of admins that makes that job so nice!

My second best paying job is my least favorite. Very bland and depressing physical plant. Mostly bland and depressing students. Low rent.

My best paying is right in the middle. A close second. But much more complicated and political than the low paying gig that I like so much!

I guess if and when I'm a boss I'll choose to talk about what somebody likes about a job in reviews, because it's a much more intersesting insight into the employee/emloyer relationship than the typical job review fare.

Someone downloaded a bunch of songs using Katy's iTunes account without her authorization... hacked! Pay Pal says it is not fraud because Katy authorized apple to use pay pal in the past (which is kind of like saying that I deserve to be mugged because I use money). Apple says only pay pal can fix it (odd since apple has the money). They say it would be ILLEGAL for them to refund her money in fact... because there's an ongoing fraud investigation (remember... the one where pay pal said it was not fraud).

I've decided on the whole I'd prefer honesty:

KATY: I have been defrauded

APPLE: I am sorry to hear this. Please be aware that we are for profit corporation as such we are answerable primarily to our shareholders. Therefore, we have decided to keep your money. That being said we have several choices available to "help" you.

If you'd like to have us blame others for your problem, please say "evasion". If you'd like us to blame you, please say "belittle". If you would like us to belittle you AND blow smoke up your arse say "arse".
